Randy and Pat Routson have sailed throughout the Bahamas, Central America, Northwestern Caribbean and Mexico aboard their sailboat “Homeward Bound”. Randy’s copper art is inspired by time spent snorkeling and exploring out islands fringed in white sand and azure blue waters. Since moving to South Carolina's Lowcountry much of his work now reflects the serenity and natural beauty found in the region.
Copper is worked utilizing hand tools and torch using a technique called "repousse' and chasing". Each piece is meticulously produced and finished in varying patinas. These include heat tempering, chemical and natural occurring patinas as well as the use of paint tinting. These processes produce a wide variety of effects and colors before application of a clear lacquer finish. Each piece is unique.
